President Weizmann’s physical condition was described today by his physicians as considerably weakened. The medical bulletin, issued at Rehovoth where the President has been ill for many days, said that his increased physical weakness is due to defective heart function, although there has been no change in the progress of the respiratory infection and his temperature remains low.
Meanwhile, the Knesset has unanimously adopted a Presidential tenure bill which provides for a five-year term of office independent of the Parliament’s term of office. The President must also be elected by secret ballot before his predecessor’s term ends and he is exempted from compulsory national service, forbidden to hold any other offices, cannot be called as a witness nor be subjected to any court proceedings.
