Rabbi Israel Miller, chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, said today that his organization is “triply gratified” by the signing yesterday of the economic agreement between the U.S. and Israel.
The Conference, Miller said, was gratified, “first, because of the recognition by our country, implicit in the agreement that U.S. investment in Israel serves to strengthen America as it strengthens Israel; second, because of the clear-cut statements by both countries reaffirming their opposition to ‘restrictive trade practices or boycotts against countries friendly to either’; and third, because of the statement’s reference to President Ford’s Feb. 26 condemnation of religious and ethnic discrimination as ‘totally contrary to the American tradition,’ and as having ‘no place in the free commerce of the U.S.'”
Rabbi Miller added: “American friends of Israel and all those committed to the principle of racial and religious equality will welcome this expression of America’s commitment to closer ties with the Jewish State and to the struggle against religious bigotry.”
