The Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations adopted a five-point consensus today following a four-hour policy meeting at which Theodore R. Mann, chairman, reported on the Presidents delegation which visited Israel earlier this month. While no agreement was reached on Alon Moreh, the controversial Gush Emunim settlement near Nablus on the West Bank, the Presidents Conference members did reach agreement that.
Jewish settlements in Judaen, Samaria and Gaza are legal; there must be no second Palestinian Arab state — Jordan is already a Palestinian Arab state; Jerusalem is indivisible and must remain so under Israeli sovereignty as the eternal capital of the Jewish State; the United States should have no relations with the Palestine Liberation Organization. The Presidents, Conference holds the conviction that Israel will carry out its commitments under the Camp David accords both in their letter and in their spirit.
Plans for a campaign to educate the Jewish and general communities on the Jerusalem issue were discussed in some detail and a kit of materials, compiled by the Presidents Conference, was distributed to the 32 affiliated national Jewish religious and secular organizations that make up the Conference.
