Anti-Semitic propaganda has appeared in the press here, particularly in conservative papers, in connection with the proposal made recently to permit some of the German-Jewish doctors who have lost their positions in the Hitler regime to settle in Spain.
Some members of the medical college here fear that an influx of Jewish doctors would seriously impair the practices of the Spanish physicians in this country. In representing this viewpoint in the press they took the opportunity to introduce some anti-Semitic propaganda.
They wrote articles attacking Fernando de los Rios, former minister of public instruction, who is now minister of foreign affairs, alleging that he was planning to bring German Jews to Spain.
Minister de los Rios, in a letter to the press, answering the attacks, denied that he ever gave permission for holders of foreign medical diplomas to practice in Spain.
