The Manchester Victoria Memorial Jewish Hospital may become one of the most popular institutions of that city with a waiting list not only of patients but of eager doctors.
The reason is that the chairman of the hospital, Nathan Laski, has ordered the matron not to engage a nurse unless she is attractive. From Mr. Laski’s explanation, it appears that he is concerned not only with the welfare of the patients, but also the esprit de corps of the doctors. Mr. Laski said: “A pleasant face has a wonderful psychological ###fect on patients. Besides, doctors are glad to marry these nurse. There have been one or two su## romances at our hospital.”
