Prime Minister Count Bethlen was under fire in the House of Parliament for his outspoken advice to the merchants who were ruined in the recent economic crisis to leave the country.
Deputy Fekete, Democrat, attacked the government for its economic and financial policy which led to the ruin of a number of merchants. The Demcratic leader assailed Count Bethlen for his unprecedented statement that “small Hungary has too many merchants.” Deputy Fekete asked: “Where shall these people go, when their own government first throws them into ruin and then advises them to emigrate at a time when the countries of immigration are closed?”
