Prime Minister Ariel Sharon pledged Israel would pull back from the Gaza Strip on schedule by the end of 2005. At Israel’s weekly Cabinet meeting Sunday, Sharon also warned government ministers against lukewarm support for the plan. Also, the chief of Israel’s military intelligence said that by approving the plan last week, the government had spurred a groundswell of regional and international optimism.
