The conflict between the Arab states and Israel is “but a family quarrel that can be resolved with the assistance of the good will of cousins, close or distant,” Gabriel Lisett, deputy Prime Minister of the Chad Republic, declared at a press conference here today. M. Lisette is in Israel as a delegate to the International Conference on the Role of Science in the Development of New States, currently under way at Rehovot.
The benefits of good relations with Israel, said the Chad statesman could be made clear to the emergent African nations, if presented properly. Several African countries with Moslem populations are friendly to Israel, he declared.
B.P. Koirala, Prime Minister of Nepal, another of the representatives at the scientific conference which has drawn scientists and statesmen from 29 countries, asked the dominant Mapai Party of Israel, at a reception last night by Mapai’s Central Committee, to act as mediator between the Socialist parties of the underdeveloped countries and the Socialist parties of Europe. Mapai is a member of the international Socialist conferences of both Europe and Asia.
Israel, said Mr. Koirala, could prevail upon the European Socialists to aid underdeveloped lands like Nepal. The Chad Premier lauded Israel’s hospitality, declaring “when I am in Israel, I do not feel as a stranger.”
