The Foreign Office announced today that Princess Margaret will visit Egypt next fall as a political emissary although she will not talk politics directly. The surprise announcement was seen here as an extraordinary gesture of good will toward Egypt and an attempt to achieve “close cooperation” with that country.
A Foreign Office source made it clear that Princess Margaret, the sister of Queen Elizabeth II, was going to Cairo not as a tourist or as a guest of President Anwar Sadat but at the specific request of the British Foreign Office. The trip will be Princess Margaret’s first to Egypt.
