— The State Prosecutor’s Office asked for prison sentences for two former members of the outlawed French neo-Nazi organization, Federation of European National Action (FANE), when their trial opened last Friday in Nice. The two, 21-year-old Marc Gillet and 33-year-old Daniel Milan, are charged with spreading racist propaganda, disseminating Nazi literature and the illegal possession of firearms.
The prosecution charged that the two were responsible for threats addressed last September to 54 Jewish community leaders in the south of France. Both Gillet and Milan admitted having spread hate literature but told the Nice criminal court that they were not anti-Semites “but only anti-Zionists.”
They denied responsibility for the threatening letters received by 54 people last year warning them “to stop Jewish activities” or “blood will run.” The letters were signed, “The New Fascist Generation. One God Only: Adolf Hitler.”
The prosecution asked eight months imprisonment for Milan, six for Gillet and suspended sentences for some of their relatives who helped them hide the evidence.
