Norwegian circles charged today that two high officials of the Quisling government had stolen confiscated Jewish property in Norway, but had escaped prosecution because of their political influence.
The accused Quisling officials were identified as Schjervey, member of the board for liquidation of Jewish property, and Overn, secretary to the Ministry for Sports and Labor. Schjervey was said to have allowed his associates to help themselves to the property, while Overn broke into the house of a deported Jewish family.
Five state policemen were arrested on charges of stealing articles from Jewish houses, but it was rumored that they had helped Jews escape the country. Property of 1,253 Norwegian Jews has already been confiscated, according to recent reports. A Norwegian decree reported in the Swedish press gave priority to Quisling party members in acquiring the flats of deported, arrested and escaped Jews. Norway’s Jewish population was about 1,300 to 1,500, half of whom have been deported.
