Dr. Stefan Polakovic, a minister, who is at present residing in the United States under the name of Dr. Jan Drobny, was sentenced today in absentia to 20 years imprisonment by the People’s Court here for conducting an anti-Semitic and pro-Nazi propaganda program in Slovakia during the period of the Slovak Puppet State. The court also ordered confiscation of his property.
Meanwhile, in Prague, the newly-elected President, Klement Gottwald, has received numerous congratulatory messages from Zionist and other Jewish organizations. At a thanksgiving service in the main synagogue in Prague, Dr. Gustav Sicher, the city’s Chief Rabbi, offered a special prayer in behalf of President Gottwald and the Czechoslovak Republic. Similar services were also held in other Jewish communities throughout the country.
