The first of May, which the Nazi government of Germany has proclaimed a day of celebration and demonstrative rejoicing, has been set aside as a day of fasting and prayer in all Czecho-Slovakian synagogues by the order of the Orthodox Rabbinate of Pressburg, it was announced today. The services are to be directed against the persecution of Jews in Germany. The rabbis have asked that the prayers of Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, be repeated on May 1.
