The West German Government, formed in Germany following the destruction of the Hitler regime, today honored Prof. Raphael Lemkin, “father” of the Genocide Convention, designed to outlaw racial crimes as practiced by the Nazis.
Prof. Lemkin received an Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit at a ceremony in the offices of the West German consulate in New York today. It was conferred by both houses of the Bonn Parliament. Dr. Lemkin is currently a member of the political science faculty of Rutgers University.
