Prof. Alfred Philippson, dean of European geographers and one of the worldly foremost experts on the Eastern Mediterranean area, died here at the age of 90. He was born in Bonn and for 60 years taught at the University of Bonn.
Prof. Philippson was the youngest son of Rabbi Ludwig Philippson, pioneer of the German Reform movement and editor of the first popular German-Jewish weekly,” Allgemcine Zeitung des Judentum.” At the age of 79 Prof. Philippson was deported by the Nazis to the Terezin concentration camp.
