Issai Schur, noted mathematician, believed to be the last Jewish professor on a German university faculty, has resigned his past as professor of mathematics at the University of Berlin, it was learned today.
The 60-year-old professor had held the post for nineteen years. He came to the University of Berlin from Bonn University where he taught for three years. He is a prominent mathematical theorist, noted for his work with Algebra and the modern functional theories.
