Prof. Reuben Wallenrod of Brooklyn College was the winner of the $500 prize for the best book-length manuscript on modern Hebrew literature in Israel submitted in the course of a contest conducted by the Zionist Organization of America. The purpose of the contest was to encourage publication of books on themes relative to Israel and Jewish culture.
The committee of judges was composed of Judge Louis E. Levinthal, president of the Jewish Publication Society of America. Professor Milton R. Konvitz of Cornell University, editor of “Industrial and Labor Review,” and Prof. Abraham I. Katsh, who served as chairman of the Z.O.A. National Commission on Educational Activities when the contest was launched. The contest was administered by Carl Alpert, director of the Z.O.A. education department.
