Professor Albert Einstein this morning received a cabled apology from the United States State Department for the misunderstanding which occurred yesterday when the distinguished scientist was interrogated by the American consulate in Berlin concerning his political affiliations.
At the same time the American consulate telephoned to inform Professor Einstein that his visa had been granted.
Professor Einstein informed the consulate yesterday that he would cancel his visit to the United States if his visa were not granted him by noon today.
The noted scientist, whose visas have been arranged for him in the past without any action on his part, was compelled to put in a personal appearance yesterday owing to instructions from the State Department, who acted because of the demand of the Woman Patriot Corporation that Professor Einstein be excluded from the United States as a Communist.
The matter is now considered settled and Professor Einstein is expected to sail on Saturday as scheduled for California where he will resume his work at Mount Wilson Observatory.
