Before leaving America to-day on his return to Germany, Professor Albert Einstein attended last night at Los Angeles, a banquet given in his honour by the Jewish National Fund, the only Jewish function which he has attended during his present visit to America. In his speech to the gathering Professor Einstein made a plea that Zionist politics should be so conducted as to enable Jew and Arab to live in Palestine in peace and brotherhood.
Over a thousand people were present, and the occasion also served to inaugurate the Ussischkin five-year plan for the sale of dunams of land in Palestine for the Jewish National Fund.
On Professor Einstein’s express wish, the sale of land was started at the banquet. He felt, Professor Einstein explained, that his attendance at a Zionist banquet would be a useless gesture if nothing concrete was done.
A certificate was presented to Professor Einstein recording the planting of more than 2,000 trees in the Einstein Forest in Palestine, which was started three years ago to commemorate Professor Einstein’s 50th. birthday. (Professor Einstein was 53 yesterday, March 14th.).
