Professor Pavel Konstantinovich Kokovzeff, noted Russian Hebrew scholar, will shortly leave for England for the purpose of studying the Hebrew manuscripts at Oxford and Cambridge universities.
Kokovzeff, a non-Jew, was born in Russia in 1861. He is a scholar of Oriental literature and languages, and was a pupil of David Khvolson. He has held the chairs of Jewish, Syrian and Chaldean literature at universities in Russia. In 1911 he was professor at the St. Petersburg University. In 1923 he became a member of the staff of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
Among the great number of Professor Kokovzeff’s works, are: “Notes on Moses Ibn Ezra,” published in 1895; “Notes on Tanchun of Jerusalem,” and “Commenis on the Book of Jonah.”
