Professor Lafayette Benedict Mendel, the well-known physiological chemist, Professor of Physiological Chemistry at Yale University, has been honoured by his colleagues and students this week for the occasion of his 60th. birthday, which occurred on February 5th.
The “Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine” has published a special “Mendel Anniversary Number” containing contributions by eighteen well-known scientists, praising Professor Mendel’s achievements in the study of nutrition, in which field he is the American pioneer and one of the greatest authorities in the world.
On his birthday, on February 5th., four hundred students and associates presented Professor Mendel with a portrait of himself painted by John Quincy Adams.
Professor Mendel, who was born in Delhi, in the State of New York, is a graduate of Yale. He is a research worker of the Carnegie Institution of Washington, and a member of the Committee on Drug Addiction, and the Bureau of Social Hygiene. He is editor of the chemistry monographs of the American Chemical Society.
