Dr. Salo Wittmayer Baron, professor of Jewish History, Literature and Institutions at Columbia University, since 1930, will retire from the Columbia faculty Sunday. He has been designated professor emeritus by the Columbia Trustees.
In retirement, Dr. Baron will be able to devote full time to the completion of his monumental Social and Religious History of the Jews, which he began in the 1930’s. Eight volumes have been published to date, bringing the history up to the Middle Ages. Already his work has been translated into several foreign languages.
