The national council of the Labor Zionist Organization of America-Poale Zion adopted today an expanded program of community action, calling for the recruitment of more of its members for social action in the nation’s Anti-Poverty program. The council also called for the development of a program of action in synagogues and community centers relating to immigration to Israel and increased activity among Jewish school groups.

The meeting of the LZOA national council followed a reception honoring 10 members of the organization who are leaving for permanent settlement in Israel, and 34 youths who left today to attend the 15th Habonim Youth Workshop in Israel.

Speakers at the meeting included Prof. Marie Syrkin of Brandeis University, member of the Jewish Agency executive; Haim Sanderson, representative of the El Al Israel National Airlines in the United States; and C. Bezalel Sherman, sociologist and author, who called for increased action and “meaningful demonstrations” concerning Soviet Jewry.
