A split within the Progressive Party here was revealed today when a group of dissidents called a national conference for party members who favor a merger with the General Zionists. The conference will be held on May 5.
Lamifneh, the dissident faction within Hapoel Hamizrachi which opposes the party’s participation in the United Religious Bloc during the forthcoming elections, today notified the labor Mizrachi party that it was prepared to enter the elections on a separate slate or attempt to create a religious united labor front. In a formal note, reiterating its opposition to joining the other religious parties in a common bloc, the Lamifneh group asked the party executive to work for a union of religious laborites instead.
