Four former prominent Austrians, now American citizens, appealed to Secretary of State John Foster Dulles this week-end to intervene with the Austrian Government to settle the claims of Jewish victims of Nazism in Austria. Mr. Dulles is attending the Big Four meeting here.

The four are: Prof. Otto Loewi, 1936 winner of the Nobel Prize for Medicine; Mrs. Alma Mahler-Werfel, daughter of composer Gustav Mahler and widow of writer Franz Werfel; Prof. Richard Schueller, former Austrian Ambassador; and Dr. Bruno Walter, world famous conductor.

Their letter to Mr. Dulles attacked the Austrian Government’s refusal to negotiate a settlement with the world Jewish organizations, and noted that the “Nazi movement in Austria was not exclusively of foreign origin.”
