Julius L. Straus, one of the most successful business men in this neighborhood who, though totally blind for the past fifteen years, took an active part in business and civic affairs here, died yesterday at a Danville hospital after a long illness. Mr. Straus, who was 81, had been associated for twenty-five years here with his brother, Alfred, in the development of the Wideawake store. He was born and raised in St. Louis and in 1870 went to New York, where he engaged in business for thirty years. He came to Danville in 1900.
