Congressional circles welcomed this week-end the promotion of Rear Admiral Hyman G. Rickover, son of Jewish immigrant parents, to Vice Admiral, a three star rank. Members of Congress have long advocated the pro-action for Adm. Rickover.
The promotion was personally approved by President Eisenhower in recognition of Adm. Rickover’s “unique contribution” to the development of the United States nuclear-powered navy. The appointment is subject to confirmation when Congress reconvenes in January.
