Confiscation of all property is the penalty announced today by the exchange office for violation of the new laws prohibiting export of more than 1,000 marks in goods by prospective emigrants from Germany.
The warning definitely states that those sending abroad merchandise exceeding that amount, with the intention of following after to collect the purchase price and then remain abroad, will also suffer confiscation of all their remaining property.
Yesterday’s decree is a severe blow to many Jews who had been planning to emigrate, since the limit of 1,000 marks in goods is considered entirely inadequate for starting life anew in a strange country.
