A proposal for further change in the divine services of the reform temples of Germany was brought up for discussion in an anonymous article published in the organ of the Verband der Nationaldeutscher Jueden. The proposal made in the article advocates the substitution of the divine services now called “Gottesdienst” by a “Weihestunde” which would result in limiting the services on all Jewish holidays, including Yom Kippur, to one hour and removing the standardized prayers.
In pleading for the acceptance of his proposal, the author appeals on behalf of the highly cultured Jews in Germany who lay greater stress on the quality than on the quantity of their prayers.
The author also urges the abolition of the stereotype sermon and asks for the introduction of a large number of oratoriums.
While the Verband der Nationaldeutscher Jueden does not identify itself with all the points of the proposal, its organ says that the proposal is published in order to create further discussion.
