The Frankfurter Israelite, in an editorial today, has appealed to the Rabbinate Council of the Agudah Israel to petition the League of Nations not to accept the proposed amendment to the calendar.
This amendment contemplates making the New Year commence on a Sunday each year. This would mean that every three years there would be one week of each year having eight days and in the fourth year here would be two weeks having eight days each. Thus, some Sundays will actually be Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, etc. The Frankfurter Israelite pointed out that the Jews who are in the habit of relying on the civil calendar will be unable to tell from the proposed new calendar what day the Jewish Sabbath falls on.
