Former Judge Joseph M. Proskauer, president of the American Jewish Committee, tonight expressed the hope that partition of Palestine, along the lines recommended by the UNSCOP majority, will be supported by a two-thirds vote of the General Assembly.
Addressing a foreign affairs forum of the New York chapter of the Committee, Judge Proskauer voiced his confidence in the feasibility of an international voluntary constabulary to police Palestine, as suggested by the United States delegation to the U.N. In addition to Judge Preskauer, the speakers included Irving M. Engel, chairman of the New York chapter, who presided; Milton Winn, formor UNRRA deputy chief in Czechoslovakia, and Dr. John Slawson, executive vice-president of the Committee.
