Monks of the Italian and German monasteries at Tabgha near here, have received for signature a petition to the High Commissioner protesting against “desecration of the Sea of Galilee which is holy to Christendom” by the Palestine Electric Corporation (Rutenberg) expansion works.
The petitioners request the High Commissioner “in the name of millions of Christians throughout the world to whom the Sea of Galilee is sacred, “to ensure that the water level of the great lake shall not be decreased, alleging that 128 centimetres have already disappeared.
The petitioners further state that the hydro-electric works are adversely affecting the fishing industry. They demand the construction of a dam to restore the water already vanished.
