A wave of protest is sweeping the country against the government policy announced Sunday, which granted the Agency for Palestine only 5,600 immigration certificates and established an ordinance prohibiting Jews from picketing enterprises owned by Jews which employ Arab labor.
Incensed by the rulings, Jewish labor here last night opened its campaign against the new immigration policy with a mass meeting.
The protest meetings have been announced for tomorrow by the Histadruth, Central Labor Federation of Palestine. A proclamation recently issued by the Histadruth revealed that the Jewish Agency had asked the government for 20,100 immigration certificates. The Labor Federation’s protest meetings are to be held in Jerusalem, Tel-Aviv, Haifa and in the larger settlements.
Tel-Aviv will hold a special occasion Thursday for considering protest resolutions. A proclamation of protest against the new government measures was issued today by the World Mizrachi and Hapoel Hamizrachi organizations.
SENTENCE JEWISH LABORERS
Two Jewish laborers were sentenced to one month each at hard labor for picketing a farm in Kfar Saba where Arab labor was employed.
The Agricultural Council of the Histadruth passed a resolution which asks the Jewish Agency to compel all immigrants arriving in Palestine on certificates to work for a specified period in the colonies. This move is aimed to combat the government policy which forces Arab labor on the Jewish colonies.
