The District Council of Edmonton, a suburb of London decided to protest today to the Ministry of Health against the granting of an application for the purchase of nineteen acres in the District as a Jewish cemetery.
Chancillor Perry opposing the sale of the ground to the Jews declared that it was “deplorable” to see some of the capers at Jewish funeral parties, where games of cards and drinking was indulged in while at other Jewish cemeteries of the district, Jews were in the habit of weeping and gnashing their teeth. The Edmonton children, he said, were frightened enough from the air raids during the war.
Edmonton already has two Jewish cemeteries. The ground was offered to Edmonton Council as a recreation park for foun thousand pounds, but the cemetery company’s bid was 900 pounds more annually, with an offer of a thirty years’ lease.
