Protests of American and Canadian Jewry which have been voiced against the British statement on the future policy in Palestine will reach a high pitch on November 2, anniversary of the issuance of the Balfour Declaration, when over 1,000 meetings of protest against Britain’s White Paper will be held.
At the first meeting of the season of the Metropolitan Association of Jewish Center Workers held at the New Y. M. H. A. building at 92nd Street and Lexington Avenue, a resolution was unanimously adopted condemning the recent statement of policy regarding Palestine, which was issued by the Colonial Office of the British government, as “a violation of the terms and spirit of the Palestine Mandate which will tend to throttle the development of the Jewish National Home.”
At a meeting of fifteen Jewish youth organizations held at the Hadassah club rooms last Sunday a resolution was adopted rejecting the Passfield Plan and voicing the belief that the statement of policy does not represent the viewpoint of the majority of British people “who are universally recognized for their qualities of justice and fairness.” The conference was called by Avukah, American Zionist Federation.
New York Jewry will attend a demonstration against the British policy in Palestine on November 2 at Madison Square Garden. The speakers will be Senator Robert Wagner, Lt. Gov. Herbert H. Lehmann, Felix M. Warburg and Prof. Felix Frankfurter. The Zionist Organization of America is sponsoring the mass meeting in conjunction with various other Jewish organizations. All members of the American Palestine Jewish Legion who fought under General Allenby in Palestine will attend the meeting in a unit.
