The Orthodox Jewish community of Frankfurt, known as the Torah True Kehillah, was legalized by the Prussian Diet after many years of negotiation.
The difficulty with regard to recognizing the statutes of the Kehillah lay in the fact that one of its articles contained the phrase, “the religious law is the supreme command,” the opponents arguing that by implication it meant that the Torah True Kehillah puts the law of the Torah above the law of the state.
