Nazi persecution caused irreversible intrinsic changes in the mental structures of surviving victims who will probably never be mentally normal as long as they live, a German psychiatrist told a World Psychiatric Association symposium here. Professor Walter von Baeyer, of Heidelberg University, said that more than one third of the survivors of Nazi persecution are suffering from lasting psychopathological conditions which resist therapy.
