Jancu Fishman, a Jewish soldier in the Roumanian army stationed in Bucharest, committed suicide yesterday. The reason for his suicide, it was declared, was that he was sentenced to four days disciplinary confinement. However, in a letter left by Fishman he declares that the reason for his suicide was that he was subjected to persecutions because he was a Jew.
In his letter Fishman relates that the colonel of his regiment sentenced a captain in the regiment to several days disciplinary confinement because he “conducted himself unworthily by shaking hands with a Jew,” referring to Fishman.
