The Vienna stock exchange was closed indefinitely and a large-scale purge of Jewish civil service employes was started. Jewish officials of all government departments were discharged and replaced by members of the Nazi Party.

Severe measures were taken today to prevent the flight of capital. All dealings with foreign interests were made subject to prohibitively severe regulations. Bank withdrawals from old accounts will be limited to 1,000 schillings weekly (the schilling was last quoted at 19 cents), but there will be no restrictions on the movement of funds deposited after March 13.
Jews were warned not to wear the Nazi swastika or other party insignia under threat of being attacked. An order issued tonight authorized wearing of the swastika by German citizens only. Any non-Germans who wear Nazi insignia “will expose themselves to unpleasant occurrences.”
