By a curious coincidence, March 12th, which happened to be Purim this year, was fixed by the German ex-soldiers’ organization as the day for commemorating the German soldiers killed in the War. Apart from the general oppressive atmosphere hanging over German Jewry, Purim in Germany this year wore an air of mourning though in normal times it was wont to be celebrated with masquerade balls, contests, and general festivity.
