Dr. Ernst Hanfstaengl, aide to Chancellor Hitler and visitor to the Harvard Class of 1909 reunion, has been invited to attend a series of hearings designed to learn the truth about present day Germany. The hearings, to be held in New York for three days beginning June 27, are under the direction of the American Commission of Inquiry.
According to information from the commission, a number of well known attorneys and writers have consented to interview witnesses on conditions in Germany. The names, as given out by the commission, include: Clarence Darrow, George Z. Medalie, Arthur Garfield Hayes, Dudley Field Malone, George Gordon Battle, Stanley High, and Raymond L. Wise, the last mentioned serving as acting secretary. Mayor LaGuardia has been invited to speak.
Among the topics upon which witnesses will be questions are: political persecution, religious persecution, the Reichstag fire, persecution of German labor unions, new laws, and Nazi organizations in America.
Witnesses who will appear to testify about conditions in Germany include Gaston Bergery, ex-secretary of the French Foreign Relations Committee: George Harley Hay, the Earl of Kinnoul; Dr. Kurt Rosenfeld, well known German barrister and representative of the Social Democratic Party; Ellen Wilkinson, former member of Parliament, and others.
