George Laflamme, Quebec Provincial Minister for Cultural Affairs, today announced the appointment to the Government-sponsored Council for Arts of David Rome, director of the Jewish Public Library of Montreal and Jewish Telegraphic Agency correspondent in that city.
The appointment of a Jewish representative to the 26-man body composed of leaders of French and English culture in the Province was seen as a recognition of Yiddish and Hebrew culture by the Quebec Government which prides itself on its policy of fair treatment to all ethnic groups. The Provincial Government has already given financial support to the Montreal Jewish Library; The Arts Council will advise the government on means of advancing culture in the province and will make recommendations on requests for grants.
