The Jeunes Canada, nationalist anti-Semitic organization here, has been the subject of a vitriolic attack by Premier L. A. Taschereau for statements purporting to prove that the Jews have violated the Sabbath observance laws.
The organization, described by the Premier as showing “ignorance”, said at a recent meeting that the government is overlooking violations of the Sabbath law by Jews. The Premier issued the following comment:
“In the year 1933, in the City of Montreal alone, we have taken action in 253 cases, because of alleged infractions of the Sabbath Observance Act. As a result of these actions, there have been 253 convictions.
“Perhaps the assertions of Les Jeunes Canada may be put down to ignorance on their part, but that is no excuse for their making such accusations without reason. When a man does not know what he is talking about, he should keep quiet.”
