Unity within the ranks of the Palestine Jewish Labor Party was still hanging in the balance today as the conference of the party, after being in session for three days, decided that the seven expelled members of the opposition must place their credentials at the disposal of the conference and that the conference will then determine to whom the credentials should be assigned.
Of the 401 delegates attending the conference, 205 voted in favor of this action, which also provides that after the expelled members of the opposition surrender their credentials to the conference, a committee be appointed to consider the question of whether the expulsions should be annulled and the ejected members reinstated.
The opposition delegates, led by Aaron Zisling, announced that they were at staining from participating in the voting since the ousted members belonged to their group. David Ben-Gurion, addressing today’s session, read a recommendation offered by the permanent committee to the conference suggesting new by-laws involving the reorganization of the election system of the party. The new by-laws, which would abolish factions within the party, provides for the holding of referendums whenever basic problems are to be decided upon.
