Austrian Jewry is gravely dissatisfied with the announcement made today by the Austrian authorities that the sole Jewish representative on the Vienna municipal council will be the Austrian Chief Rabbi, Dr. David Feuchtwang.
Disappointment is expressed in Jewish circles that the requests that the president of the Jewish community be appointed to the council were not granted. The general feeling here is that the representation on the city council should be on political and not on religious lines.
The authorities have made it plain, however, that they regard the Jewish question as religious and not political.
