A call for a conference of all the Orthodox Jewish federations in this country for the purpose of strengthening and unifying Orthodox Judaism in America has been issued by Rabbi Herbert S. Goldstein of the Institutional Synagogue and released to the press by the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America.
“I believe that around the Yeshiva, a united Orthodox Jewry in this country can be established, comprising all our diverse elements,” says Rabbi Goldstein. “This does not imply the absorption of one organization by another, nor the loss of identity on the part of any of the constituent bodies, but that each group in the party shall do the work outlined for it by the united party, and receive the strength and power which emanate from counsel, numbers, unity and harmony.”
“In order to accomplish this aim,” says Rabbi Goldstein further, “I deem it highly desirable that a conference composed of the representatives of the directors or executive committee of the Yeshiva, the Union of Orthodox Rabbis, the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, the Union of Sephardic Congregations, the Rabbinical Council, the Rabbinical Association and Young Israel be held as soon as possible. In my opinion a conference of this kind, for which arrangements shall shortly be made, can make powerful strides towards bringing order out of the chaos existing in our camp, and strengthen the cause of religion in America.”
