Rabbi Alexander Basel of the Jacob H. Schiff Center in the Bronx, is to be the guest of honor tonight at a surprise dinner to be given for him at the Center. Rabbi Basel is celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of his marriage. He has been with the Center for the last ten years.
Rabbi Basel graduated from Columbia University in 1906 and has occupied pulpits in the Bronx ever since. He is the official chaplain of the Bronx County Jail, ever since the Bronx became an official county.
Among the guests expected at the dinner in honor of Rabbi Basel are: County Judges James M. Barrett and Harry Stackel, Supreme Court Justice Albert Cohen, Dr. Cyrus Adler, Professor Mordecai M. Kaplan and many other Jewish notables.
