The Protestant School Board in the town of Mount Royal got its first Jewish member Monday when Rabbi Allen Langner of Beth El synagogue was elected unopposed. He becomes the fifth Jewish member of the Protestant School Board of Greater Montreal, which supervises all English-speaking schools in the province. The large majority of the pupils are Protestant. Rabbi Langner’s accession follows years of effort by the Canadian Jewish Congress, culminating in legislation passed in May 1971, to permit Jews to vote and be elected to Quebec school boards.
