Chaplain Eugene J. Cohen, of Arverne, N.Y., was today elected president of the Association of Jewish Chaplains of the Armed Forces at the close of the Association’s biennial national convention at Fort Hamilton.
The two-day convention, which began at the Academy Chapel of the U. S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point, N. Y., included a series of events commemorating the 100th anniversary of the commissioning of the first Jewish military chaplain by the U.S. Government on September 18, 1862. These events are part of a year-long observance in honor of the centennial of the Jewish military chaplaincy, being sponsored by an ad hoc committee of representatives of 50 national Jewish organizations, and coordinated by the National Jewish Welfare Board.
