Rabbi Samuel M. Gup of Temple Beth-El, this city, delivered an address of felicitaions to Bishop James De Wolf Perry at a banquet tendered the Bishop by the Churchmen’s League of Rhode Island on Tuesday, to the occasion of the Bishop’s election as head of the Episcopal Church of America. This is the first time that a rabbi has ever been invited formally by a Christian body of laymen to extend the congratulations of his people to a Christian leader upon his elevation to the highest post within the gift of his Church.
